Hot on the heels of Rainbow Serpent Festival in Victoria, Open Records is proud to present an evening with one of the world’s most in-demand producers and live acts, Reshef Harari… better known to the world as Sheff and Captain Hook. Both sets at Rainbow Serpent blew the crowd away and we are happy we can finally bring North Queensland one of Open Records’ longest standing and most successful collaborators. Huge local line-up including Uzi, Player 1, Jekyl, Jesse Kuch, Adam Giardina and the return of VDMO Kstati!

MUTe launch new techno project MUTation on Open Records – first release for 2012 on 30/1

Open Records is proud to present our first release for 2012 with the debut of a new project from Israeli producers Roy Sason and Liran Ackerman, better known to most at MUTe. Best known for their progressive and trance sounds, MUTation will explore new directions in techno and minimal, much like their recent releases on Open including the smash hit remixed by Matador, Roy Rosenfeld and Fiord, Modern Talk.

Everyone Is Creative is the Israeli duo at their exciting best, a slamming techno weapon that has been tried and tested on festival dancefloors in all corners of the globe. Establishing MUTation’s trademark staunch bottom-end groove and grinding, powerful leads, it’s a perfect introduction to this new venture from two of Israel’s longest standing and most exciting producers.

Joining MUTation on remix duties is another new project from a veteran production duo, this time from Australia. Rex’n'Chappo is the new moniker from Ian Chaplin and Philip Rex, known for their live progressive outfit DECOY (with releases on Iboga and Dance’n’Dust) and experimental jazz-techno as IMPS (with Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson from Minilogue). Stripping back the original to a more traditional techno beast, their rework is another example of greatness from two of Australia’s best electronic music producers.

Finally, New Zealand artist Grouch makes a very welcome return to Open Records to close he release out in style with a twisted, psychedelic rework in a similar style to his stunning release from Expansion Pack, Who The F*ck Is Gordon Bennet? Enjoy!

Open Records hometown wiz kid FunkForm is about to set off on the biggest gig of his career – at next weekend’s Rainbow Serpent Festival in Victoria – but not before a bit of a send-off on Sunday 22/1 at The Casbah Lounge in Cairns! FunkForm will premiere some of his latest wares in the top spot, with very able support from Uzi, Yachak, Headcase, Teekay, Bush Pilot, Bushmech and ‘Erb. Kicking off at 7pm, entry is only $10 with a free BBQ from open-9pm… so you can even get your dinner on. See you in there!

The third annual timeOUT Awards went down with the usual fanfare in Cairns last weekend, with a gala evening at Salt House on the waterfront. Hosted by timeOUT Editor and Open Records label manager and DJ Jesse Kuch, the evening was a huge success, with over 500 turning out for a big night of celebrations, live music and celebrity guests. All the winners are now decided (check them here), and The Cairns Post’s talented video editor and producer Isaac Egan has put together an awesome little video with all the local winners – with a soundtrack courtesy of SunControlSpecies‘ wicked remix of Interpulse‘s Buckle Up. Open Records presents Felix (Weekend Heroes) DJ Set at The Lounge Bar in Cairns this Friday night

Cairns gets a treat on Friday night as one of the world’ most respected names in techno and progressive house, Felix Nagorsky from Weekend Heroes, drops into The Lounge Bar (underneath The Woolshed) this Friday night! The Israeli superstar has already notched up one Beatport hit in the shape of Fear Factor on Expansion Pack and is now hard at work on a remix for Australian artist Child, so needless to say we are suitably excited! Support comes from Cairns favourites Adam Giardina, Waltone, Jesse Kuch, Uzi and Nick Bradley. Tickets are $10 early, $15 later… get it early though, ya’ll know how full The Lounge can get! See you there!

FunkForm’s Child’s Play tops list of Open Records’ most played tracks on Soundcloud in 2011

Open Records is proud to announce that homegrown label artist FunkForm has topped Open Records’ most played tracks of 2011 with his track Child’s Play. Originally released on Projections Magazine 2010 at Rainbow Serpent Festival, the track was offered as a free download after all issues of the magazine went out, so it’s no suprise it got a bit of support! Other popular tracks this year included A. Balter’s storming desert weapon Walla, Sheff‘s explosive remix of Fiord’s Scratching The Sides (also one of our highest sellers on Beatport), Seph‘s subliminal remix of Sensient’s Tech Message and Closer Apart‘s quirky minimal tech-styled Last Word (both from Depth Perception). Uzi to close The Casbah Lounge’s Boxing Day Bash tonight

Open Records‘ new Cairns young gun Uzi has been tearing up d-floors across the region with his staunch mix of minimal, techno and progressive in 2011. One of our favourite haunts – The Casbah Lounge – is chucking a box post-Christmas bash tonight and after smashing the roof off the place last week, is locked in for a 4am closing set in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. With most people enjoying another public holiday tomorrow, there is no reason not to head out and check out one of Far North Queensland’s finest in action!
