Cairns & Cyclone Yasi

It’s been a tough few months for Open Records’ home state of Queensland. Only weeks ago, the south and central areas were hit by what was called an “inland tsunami” with the most intense flooding the region has experienced in recorded history. Then last week, Open Records’ home town of Cairns in Far North Queensland felt the brute force of the most destructive tropical cyclone ever to hit Australia, ominously titled Cyclone Yasi. While the main city of Cairns largely dodged a bullet (it hit about 100kms south), there are many towns in the region that have been all but flattened, with lives, property, crops and livelihoods lost. The power only returned to Cairns over the weekend, so forgive us for the lack of activity in the past few weeks. We will announce a new release schedule soon, so stay tuned! Luckily, a lot of the Open family was down south in Melbourne for the summer, so many didn’t have to go through this terrible storm personally, but it affected many close friends and family, so we are urging everyone to chip in a few dollars to the appeal so we can help North Queensland rebuild. Our hearts are with the people who have lost everything, but in the true Queensland spirit… we will rebuild!
