Tonelab has just dropped a killer live set from their first set at the newly refurbished My Aeon in Melbourne, including tunes from his new release on Open Records.
Tonelab is a new project from longtime collaborators Philip Rex and Ian Chaplin, who are not only two of Australia’s most sought-after jazz session musicians on double bass and sax respectively, but also the names behind celebrated electronic projects Decoy, IMPS (with Minilogue) and Rex’n’Chappo.
Kicking off the set with the fat and funky grooves of the title track Backyard Bender, the set is the perfect introduction to the new sound, which cherry picks the best influences from their previous projects and injects them with a fresh dose of inspiration.
We think you’ll agree that this latest incarnation is their most exciting yet. Stay tuned for more from the Melbourne project very soon.
