Child: The Remixes is out now at Beatport, featuring Robert Babicz, Max Cooper & more

Child 2013

Open Records has dropped our final release for 2013 and believe us, we’ve saved the best for last! The Remixes is a stellar compilation of amazing remixes, re-edits and reworks from the last four years of Australian artist Elliot Rothfield, aka Child.

Included on the 10-track album are remixes by PsycatronMax Cooper and Weekend Heroes, remixes of Andy Ukhtomsky & DisruteSoleadA. Balter and Eitan Reiter, and exclusive re-reworks by Child of Robert Babicz’s remix of Child & SQL My Minds and Swayzak’s remix of Feed Me.

Elliot says he’s particularly happy that a few special ones from the back catalogue get another chance to catch people’s ears, alongside some exclusive surprises.

“Some of them, when I released them the first time, they didn’t get much of a listening to. It’s great that tunes that I really, really love are being brought out again, some of which have some great names around them. People can have a proper listen. I also did some reworks on Robert Babicz and Swayzak’s remixes, so I think it’s a cool collection.”

The Remixes caps off a remarkable successful year for the Melbourne-based producer, live artist and promoter, who recently celebrated five years as the brains behind Strawberry Fields Festival, one of Australia’s best-loved boutique outdoor events. This year’s line-up was the best in the event’s history, with names like Carl Craig, Extrawelt, Moodyman, TigaNosaj Thing and more.

The work doesn’t stop right through the New Year. He also has a hand in the upcoming New Year’s Day festival Let Them Eat Cake, attracting names like Dusky, Julio Bashmore, Soul ClapBicepCyril HahnDigitalDJ KozeFloating Points and James Holden.

“At the moment I’m obviously getting pretty excited for Let Them Eat Cake, it’s been taking up so much of my time since Strawberry I’e barely had time to think. But this year’s Strawberry was definitely the best time I’ve ever had and the music was unbelievable.”

Apart from his hit releases on Funk D’Void‘s legendary Outpost Recordings with SQL and a cheeky free EP via Soundcloud earlier this month (also featuring SQL, see above!), new music has been few and far between from the Child camp in 2013. Elliot says all that changes when the madness that is Let Them Eat Cake is over.

“I’ve barely had the chance to do club shows, go overseas or write music lately because the festivals have been taken up so much of my time. I’m going to take three months and get back to writing music again. Both SQL and I are going to do some stuff again, but he’s really, really busy as well. We haven’t had the chance either apart or together since the Outpost release at all. But we’ve got a brand new studio now so I’ll probably just fuck off to work on stuff for a bit and get back to writing properly.”

For now, everyone will just have to make do with The Remixes, out now at
