FunkForm is Maddy Hughes, one of Australia’s fastest-rising and most exciting production talents. Based in Open Records’ tropical hometown of Cairns, his lush, atmospheric take on deep house, progressive, tech-house, techno and electronica is heavily inspired by his World Heritage-listed surrounds.

Releasing his first music on Open in 2011, he has since found strong success on labels like Vapour Recordings, BEEF, Obstacles Recordings, FutureForm, Quilla, City Life and Wind Horse.

South American maestro Hernan Cattaneo has been a strong supporter, playing his music twice on his hugely popular Metrodance Radio Show, while names like John Digweed, Dave Seaman, Anthony Pappa, Derrick May, D-Nox, Luis Jr, Marco Carola and many more have thrown the weight behind his music.

Closer to home, FunkForm has become a regular feature on the Australian festival, club and party circuit, performing at some of the country’s biggest and best events, including Rainbow Serpent Festival, Winter Solstice Festival Cairns, Manifest, Earthdance, Organic Audio,¬†Harmonize Festival and more, alongside holding down a residency at Open Records events in Cairns.

One thing is for sure – he isn’t going anywhere any time soon. With his full-length album Second Nature finally on the way on Open Records in early 2017, plus more big releases on some of the world’s best labels in the pipeline, this Aussie innovator’s future is very bright indeed. Stay tuned!
